CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Snake (real name Light) No last name given in canon. Although the wiki uses “Field” as a last name, that was basically a joking response from the creator and not ever mentioned in any games proper. I will refrain from using one for his canon self
AGE: 24
CANON: 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
Note: There's additional information about him revealed in Virtue's Last Reward, the next game in the trilogy. He doesn't appear in that game but I'll be using that information.

CANON PERSONALITY: REVISED
“I am shocked and appalled that guessing at random has not yielded better results!”
You ever have that friend who's really smart and knows it and doesn't mind trolling you when you're not as fast to catch on? That's Snake.
As a child, he was a victim of a car accident that removed at least half of his left arm and left him blind. While this kind of catastrophic and life-changing event could have crushed his spirit, he instead learned to live with his new reality. He's skilled with braille and has enough spatial awareness that he doesn't need a cane. He can even run for short distances and boasts to Junpei at one point that he could probably defend himself quite sufficiently in a fight.
Although canon doesn't specify the relationship he has with his parents, the fact that he has a high-end prosthetic for a left arm shows that his parents probably did work extensively with him in regards to therapy. His mother is especially worried about him in light of the multiple kidnapping attempts, wanting to keep her children safe.
Not to mention the relationship Snake has with his sister. She is his connection between his world and a world of vision that most people take for granted. They are fiercely close to each other, bonding over the traumatic nature of his accident. Although he is very much the kind of person who can be independent and move about the world just fine, it is no exaggeration that he can and does do anything for his sister. This relationship is cemented further as the pair of them are kidnapped not once, but TWICE as part of a series of experiments called the Nonary Game. They were rescued both times, but it was their strength in each other that allowed them to not lose their focus (and their lives).
This relationship is a source of strength for Snake and his sister, along with deep abiding love. It allows him to do insane (but awesome) things like find 9 four leaf clovers in a field as a birthday present for her. Or take six shots from a gun in order to confront her killer in one of the bad (but required) endings of 999. Always having his sister and his family backing him up, Snake is very secure.
Snake comes across as extremely confident, but not quite arrogant. He certainly is quick to point out where people fail if it's blatant. He's very intelligent with a wealth of knowledge on multiple topics. When looking through a library in 999, Junpei even calls out Snake when he doesn't have anything to comment about a subject.
He's not above trolling people with comments, like the one above if he feels they're either messing around or not paying attention too well. He even threatens Junpei with physical pain at one point for excessive examination of items in room. To which Junpei thinks “I better stop this because I don't want to get my ass kicked by a blind guy.” He's never quite “ahahaha I'm so much smarter than you are” but he can express his frustration with snarky commentary.
At the same time, if there's information that is beneficial for people to know as a group, he doesn't hesitate to share. There's no point in hoarding information that puts him ahead if there's a task that involves the input and help of everyone. For example, at the beginning, Snake reveals that their kidnapper, Zero, had given him a letter in braille that explains some of the finer aspects of the Nonary Game they find themselves in. He could have easily kept the information for himself since no one knew (except maybe Clover) that he had this letter until he brought it up to the group as a whole.
Being thrown into a truly crisis situation at a young age, Snake is the kind of person that keeps his head when others might go off the rails. Even though he's kidnapped twice, each time Snake is the person that gets everyone on track, both by calming his group when he's 15 and then revealing the contents of his letter when he's 24. Although he's much smarter and has a different personality than Junpei, the two do end up getting along and confiding information in each other. Even if they do snark about it.
This is brought up in supplementary information in Virtue's Last Reward, but Snake also enjoys music. He can play the harp quite well, to the point that he gets his own little fan club while living with his sister. Even in 999, there's dialog that suggests Snake is familiar with playing a piano, but can't in the room where they're stuck in because he can't read the notes on the pages and the piano's keys all have different notes than normal.
In Recolle, he'd be the sort to head tilt at the oddities being described to him, but also be curious about trying to solve them. He'd be able to take a more objective approach to problems since he wouldn't be confused about how things look. It'd be a fascinating project to take on and explore. Random building destruction? Well, Snake supposes he'll just need to actually take his cane with him and carry on. Monsters? Surely you jest, but he'll probably run since he's not foolhardy.
It might honestly take Snake a while to warm up to other people. He's confident and polite but he's a bit focused on his own personal goals. However, people who also understand the importance of having younger siblings, other intelligent people or those with personalities similar to his sister would help him warm up faster.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Acute spatial awareness and can navigate quite well without a cane. A heightened sense of touch as he can tell what kind of wood a desk is made from just by touching it. Sensitive hearing. Extremely intelligent. Gifted musically, able to play piano and harp.
He has the ability to receive thoughts and information from others who are skilled at sending it. Basically how telepathy works in this canon is that strong transmitters have information and can use their thoughts to put this information in the equivalent of a mental bookshelf (called the morphogenetic field) that all mentally gifted people can access. The receivers then have the ability to go to the bookshelf and pick up the information and use it accordingly, pass on the info, etc.

AU NAME: Light Averly, nickname of Snake
AU AGE: 24
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Light possesses a modern prosthetic for his left arm instead of the super cybernetic arm he has in his canon. Otherwise physically the same.
AU HISTORY: REVISED
– From near the Seattle area
– Has parents and a younger sister
– Cousins with Miles Edgeworth, agreed with Auste. They haven't really interacted a lot before Recolle time.
– Went blind and lost half his arm due to birth defects. Gradually lost his sight into his childhood and had operations to remove half his arm so his family was prepared and had lots of therapy and psychological counseling for him. This happened when he was around 12.
– Because everyone had a chance to adjust to what was going to happen and there was a safety net already in place, Snake suffered a lot less trauma in that regard.
– On the other hand, because it was more gradual, he suffered a lot more in terms of pain.
– With the support system in place, he doesn't cling so much so much to his sister, although they are generally close.
– Has a wearable prosthetic of current technology. He can move his fingers independently and it looks reasonably realistic, but he can't do any fine motor control with it, like pinch his fingers or pick up something small with his left hand. He started using it in high school (went from a hook to gradually more functional).
– Started learning music as a form of his therapy and took to it well, first with piano in the eighth grade and then the harp in later high school once he got a more functional prosthetic.
– Always interested in the sciences in school, but especially intrigued by physics since the physical laws exist whether or not you can see them happening.
– Went to college around Seattle but went to Recolle for his master's degree in physics and also because of their music program, although that's more on the side.
– He also goes away because he wants to prove to his family and himself that he can adapt well to a place that isn't immediately surrounded by friendly faces.
– Roommates with Felicia, agreed with Stark. Although he is going off to prove to his family how independent he can be, he knows he's going to need someone there for extra tasks. Felicia is a physical therapy student and Snake has immense respect for the field considering all that he's been through. This is why that even though Felicia was basically a stranger, he agreed to be roommates with her and they get along,
– Occasionally tutors people to varying degrees of success like Yuffie, agreed with Mish
– Also occasionally plays his harp at cafes for extra money and to get more into the music scene should he want to have some kind of musical career on the side.
AU PERSONALITY: REVISED
– Still enjoys trolling people who don't apply themselves
– Because he hasn't had significant (and multiple) traumatic experiences, might be more willing to accept danger than is really necessary. He's trying to prove to himself that he can just fine without his family near him.
– Either ignores or certainly tells people what he thinks of those who make fun of the handicapped
– Is not nearly attached to his sister, although he is fond of her and they talk a lot
– Because of the lengthy and painful process he had as a child, he'll really go out of his way to avoid anything he perceives as painful
– Because he's also trying to prove that's a perfectly fine adult on his own, more apt to explore the mysteries of the town as he finds them, even though he's still hyper focused on his own goals
– Although personable, might be hard to get to know if he doesn't immediately hit it off someone
– He's still a very confident person, but not as much as he makes it out to be. He'd only reveal that little fact to the people he grows close to during the game. Basically, if a situation relates to a subject he has a lot of information on, he'll be supremely confident. If it isn't, he'll still act like he is, even if he is not.
– Not a real introvert, but not one to offer suggests first. Very methodical and likes patterns.
– Since he lacked the background of Nonary Games, he also doesn't realize how low people can actually sink. So he has a much higher overall respect for humanity
– Doesn't really show nervousness in his face, but can start randomly moving the fingers of his prosthetic, as though making sure they're still there and working
