Memory Summary: Visual memory of his sister and mom
Gained Through: Sleepover
Date: Day 48

Snake is about 6 or 7 and his sister is a baby. He is annoyed because babies can't do anything fun. His mom tells him that of course she can't do anything, she's a baby. However, he gets her to laugh and it's about the coolest thing ever because she's so happy! So clearly the answer is to get her to continue to laugh a lot. Then he gives her a big kiss and tells her she's the best sister ever.

Effects: Just a fun little family memory and a chance for him to know what his mom looks like. That and getting the sense he came from a loving home.

Memory 6

Memory Summary: A somewhat scary memory with his sister
Gained Through: The Halloween party
Date: Day 38

Not nearly as scary as waking up scarred for life. When he was about 14 and his sister was about 8, they decided to go on a bike ride together. Which in order for Snake to do safely, his sister or his parents rigged it so their bikes were connected. Unfortunately, Clover decided that they should have an adventure worthy of the heroes of a live action show, Space Patrol Super Rangers. First Snake is disoriented about their route so he's not sure where they are. Then Clover decides they should "blast off" like the Super Rangers. Which meant riding bikes straight down a hill/steep street. Snake screams and the memory cuts off in the middle.

Effects: Just a fun memory with his sister and showing that Snake would be willing to do things with his sister that he wouldn't normally entertain.

Memory 5

blind_badass: (agony)
Memory Summary: Waking up, a continuation from Memory 2
Gained Through: Survivor day
Date: Day 33

What was learned/Summary: Snake remembers the terrible trauma of waking up from a deep dark sleep and realizing he can't see and half his left arm is missing. When he wakes up, he's alone so he freaks out and faints.

Effects: Giving him a panic attack as the memory is now fresh in his mind as opposed to being buried by several years of other memories. It's likely that Snake may have either forgotten this memory or it was the kind of thing that plagued him in nightmares as a child. Now that he's an adult, he's better equipped to deal with what happened, but it's still horrifying to be slapped with it like it took place an hour ago.

Memory 4

Memory Summary: Audio only, Snake's continuation of the previous memory
Gained Through: Cooking time!
Date: Day 30/31

What was learned/Summary: A continuation of Memory 3. The woman in the memory changes the conversation, telling Light she's worried about him and wonders if he's still hurting over how a previous relationship ended, to which Light replies, "Mark was a complete bastard and if I were thinking with my head instead of my gonads, I would have figured that out." The woman suggests that maybe he should date some girls she knows. Light says that it might be better for him to concentrate on his thesis because he won't have time for dating anyone. The thesis will take up too much of his time. The woman then responds that he should at least try to follow up on some of the acquaintances he's made because she's worried about him being too alone.

Light then remarks that he's very lucky to have a sister as loving as Clover. She shouldn't worry so much about him and that she should go and concentrate on her own studies in her first college year. Brother and sister share a hug and Light feels such deep deep down joy for at least if he has Clover, he is not alone in the world.

Effects: Snake realizes he has a sister named Clover that he recalls he'd do anything for, so his earlier efforts at stabbing his hand make so much sense to him. It grounds him to know he has someone in the world who worries about him but at the same time it IS troubling to know that Clover can't find him. The conversation also reveals that apparently he may be bisexual which also in turn makes him realize that he's attracted to Heiji. Not that he plans on revealing that fact to ANYONE. For now.

Memory 3

blind_badass: (hurt)
Memory Summary: Audio only, Snake is having a simple conversation with someone
Gained Through: Calhoun Heart of the Matter
Date: End of August

What was learned/Summary: The memory appears to take place not long after Memory 1. The person he's talking to is a woman but she isn't named. It's a fairly innocuous conversation but there's a lot that's understood.

Number 1: The woman he's talking to knows him very well
Number 2: She is excellent at describing stories and situations in ways he can easily picture.
Number 3: She makes sure to put all of her feelings in her voice instead of having "dead air" spent on gestures he can't appreciate
Number 4: That she lives nearby? His roommate?
Number 5: That he values her opinion HIGHLY

Effects: He needs to know more about this mystery woman who knows him very well because she might possibly be a close friend or even a family member. Because he doesn't want to lose a very important clue to his past, it prompts him to perform a physically dangerous act.

Memory 2

blind_badass: (well crap)
Memory Summary: Snake has a visual memory.
Gained Through: Calhoun Party number 2
Date: Whenever this was, still August I think, kind of behind here...

It's the start of summer vacation and the last day of school. Everyone on the bus is excited for summer as they're getting dropped off at their stops for the last time until September. There's no context for age but he and the people he's talking to are looking forward to the fourth grade. He gets off the bus and everyone is telling him goodbye. He's filled with happy thoughts about soccer practice and swimming pools.

When he gets off the bus, he notices how beautiful the world is and especially how blue the sky can be. The sun is so bright that he has to hold up his left hand to shield his eyes. He can hear the school bus drive away.

There's nothing else to the memory but there's a sense of dark foreboding at the very end, as though something bad was about to happen...

What was learned/Summary: He wasn't, in fact, born blind although Snake had been suspecting that much.
Effects: A bit more information on his life, giving him some clues on how he might have gained his handicaps. Also giving him a precious visual of the world.

Memory 1

Aug. 11th, 2014 08:17 pm

Memory Summary: Snake has a talk with one of his professors about getting a good grade on his exam and he's free to start working on his dissertation.
Gained Through: Calhoun Party
Date: 8/11/14

The memory doesn't have any context for how he came to be there, but he immediately knows he's in the office of one of his professors. It also doesn't feel like it was that long ago in time. He can smell old books and feel the leather armrests.

"Mr. Averly, I've listened to your oral essay and graded it accordingly."

All of essays have to be oral, as how it was worked out he'd participate like every other student. This is understood.

"Well, how did I do?"

"Now, you don't need to look so nervous, Mr. Averly! I'm quite pleased with your essay. As it's 30 percent of your final grade, you'll have no trouble getting an A in my class."

He lets out a shaky breath he hasn't realized he'd been holding. An A! This is great! It meant the start of so many things now! He can't help but stutter in his excitement. "S-so does this mean you'll be my adviser for my dissertation?"

"I'd be happy to. What branch of physics did you plan on covering?"

"String theory, mostly. I was also interested in dark matter but I have it narrowed down to those two subjects."

"You certainly aim high, Mr. Averly. You need to get started soon, though. This is your last class before your dissertation is due. Six months will roll by faster than you think possible. But...take at least a week to switch gears. That's what I tell all my students after their final exam. And in fact...isn't it your birthday soon?"

"Tomorrow. I'll be 24." He sighs. This is the best present he could have gotten for himself.

"Well, go out there and celebrate! Have a drink with a few friends or at the very least, have a slice of cake. You've earned it."

He did earn it. He'd write best dissertation in the history of the physics department of this university. Light Averly, Phd sounded wonderful.

What was learned/Summary: He finds out his last name, what he'd been doing before he came to the game and how old he is. Also that he might have friends?
Effects: Feeling slightly more confident and more grounded knowing a bit about himself.
